Why convert HEIC to JPG?
Since iOS 11, iPhones save photos as HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container). The files are about half the size of a JPG at the same quality, which is great for your storage, but many websites, Windows apps and AI image tools still cannot open them. JPG works everywhere.
How to convert HEIC to JPG
- Choose or drop one or more HEIC photos above.
- Pick a quality. 90% looks identical to the original for almost every photo.
- Leave Keep each file under 5 MB on if the photo is going to an AI tool. Most have an upload limit around 5 MB.
- Download each JPG, or all of them at once.
Your browser decodes the photo itself where it can, as Safari does. Elsewhere, a decoder loads once into the page and runs on your device, so the photos are never sent to a server.
Using the photo for AI
Photo-based trends like the action figure box, AI pet portraits and couple photos all start from a picture of you. After converting, fit it to a vertical frame with the photo to 9:16 converter, then write the edit with the Nano Banana prompt generator. Ideas to try are in the trending AI prompt library.
Using the ShortStudio app? You can skip this step: it accepts HEIC photos straight from your camera roll.
Stop your iPhone saving HEIC
Open Settings, then Camera, then Formats, and choose Most Compatible. New photos will save as JPG. Photos you have already taken stay as HEIC, which is what this converter is for.
