How to write a Seedance prompt
Seedance, from ByteDance, is built for short stories rather than single moments. It can hold the same subject across a cut, so one clip can open wide and finish on a close-up.
- Write each shot as its own sentence. Start the second with “Cut to” so the model knows a new shot begins.
- Keep the subject the same across cuts. Describe it once in full, then refer back to it (“the hippo”, “she”).
- Use real camera language. Wide shot, close-up, tracking and push-in are all understood.
- Give each shot room. Two shots fit comfortably in 8 to 10 seconds. Three or more need a longer clip.
Example Seedance prompts
Shot 1: Wide establishing shot of a firefighter wading through a flooded street toward a floating cardboard box, the camera tracks alongside the subject. Cut to shot 2: close-up of the firefighter lifting a soaked kitten out of the box. Lighting: soft overcast daylight. Style: documentary style, natural and unpolished. Sound: rain on water, a tiny meow.
Shot 1: Wide shot of a packed stadium at night as a fan in a team scarf stands up and raises both arms. Cut to shot 2: close-up of the fan shouting with joy as confetti falls. Lighting: colorful stadium floodlights. Style: casual vertical phone footage, like a real social media post. Sound: a roaring crowd.
